Kristina Johnson Avery

Staff Writer

Kristina is a veteran communication strategist who helps CEL and its partners tell their stories.

She comes to CEL from The Dream Corps and Green For All, where she served as a writer and public affairs strategist, working to reform prisons and expand opportunity in the clean energy economy. Prior to that, Kristina spent five years at Sierra Club, where she managed regional communications for the Beyond Coal campaign and oversaw the Club’s 2008 election communications in Colorado and New Mexico.

She’s also worked as a wilderness ranger and firefighter for the Forest Service in the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, and Oregon.

Kristina holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Oregon and has won a number of awards for writing, including two first-place prizes from the Colorado Press Association.

Her garage is full of climbing gear, skis, and bikes, which have been gathering dust since 2014, when her daughter was born.
